On Instagram (@crystalngumezi), I often get asked the question,
“How do I grow my brand on Instagram?”
Here’s the thing…
If your brand does not have its own unique DNA, it will simply not grow.
Let me explain…
You as an individual should have your own identity.
Your brand should have its own identity too.
When someone finds your brand online, they should know exactly who you are, what you stand for, and why you exist.
Backtracking to my own personal journey with branding and business (which you can learn more about: HERE), my businesses as an entrepreneur were birthed and created as a result of having my brand on Instagram.
My career trajectory started by me transitioning from a mechanical engineer working in corporate America, to becoming a manager for Fortune 500 companies, to later becoming a serial entrepreneur, making my own money my own way using Instagram.
Having a brand in the digital space and establishing a notable brand on Instagram, allowed me to navigate the business and online world more strategically (and more quickly).
Having a personal brand on Instagram helped me launch my own businesses in various industries, coach other creatives, entreprenuers and small business owners to do the same, and develop long term business relationships with well known brands such as Dove, Clinique, Neutrogena and Walmart (just to name a few).
I used my brand on Instagram to build my portfolio, launch my businesses, and reach thousands of people online.
By definition, personal branding is the practice of people marketing themselves and their careers as brands.
Personal branding is essentially the ongoing process of establishing a prescribed image or impression in the mind of others about an individual, group, or organization.
I like to think of my personal brand as an umbrella in which several other brands fall under.
Because I’ve invested in establishing a unique identity and online presence in my business category, I am able to more fluidly navigate the realm of customer relationships, strategic marketing, and online networking.
When people get to know me through my brand on Instagram, they become more interested in learning more about me and my professional career, and in learning more about the different ways I can help them become more successful in the areas of business, branding and social media marketing.
So what does this mean for you?
You need something unique to attach to your brand and business in order to make it stand out.
Your greatest asset is YOU.
God made you in His image, which means that you have the ability to produce, create and to live in what you created.
Often times, people get discouraged from developing their own brands online either because they don’t believe in themselves and their gifts, they don’t have enough “time“, or they feel as though no one will find their story interesting enough to invest in.
Take my advice (this coming from a very introverted entrepreneur): You won’t know until you try!
Here’s why using Instagram to grow your brand and business is so important
I. Creating a Brand Online Creates a Buzz for Your Business (or Future Business)
Creating a brand on Instagram is so important because Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms in the world, second only to Facebook when it comes to engagement.
This means that majority of your audience is probably on Instagram or on Facebook.
It’s important for you to know where your audience spends most of their time so you can speak directly to them, and so they can gain access to you, your products and your services.
II. Your Brand Becomes the Building Block for Your Future Success
All of my businesses were developed as a result of having a brand on Instagram.
Since launching my brand on Instagram in 2016, I’ve used Instagram to build my businesses, grow my professional network, increase my brand’s visibility, and turn a $0 earning brand into a five figure stream of income (on its way to six).
Having my brand on Instagram, and building an authentic audience that has grown over the years with me, has contributed to my entrepreneurial success and online marketing expertise (which I now use to teach and coach others).
