So you want to learn how to brand your business online?
Well, you’re in the right place!
Let’s get into the 5 basic steps you will need to learn and perform in order to strategically brand your business online. And just a note, I have both a nonprofit and for-profit businesses that I run online, so these steps and methods should help you in whatever field of business you are in.

Branding Tips 101
Know your target niche/audience: If you have followed along with me and my branding advice before, then you already know what a niche is and what you need to do to find it. If you are new, welcome!
A niche is a target group of people within a specific category. For example, if you are a salon owner, then your target niche would be individuals who like to get their hair professionally done, men/women who prefer salon treatments, individuals who take their hair care seriously .. etc.
The same is true for any other business category you are in, the main goal here is to know your target audience, their interests, their habits, and what problem they are looking to be solved or what service they need or prefer from you.
Stick to your strengths! Your business should be a reflection of you, your character, your integrity, and your expertise.
You want to make sure that you are sticking to what makes you and your business original and unique. As you know, the market is saturated (depending on what business industry you go into), so it is important for you as a business owner to identify what makes you and your brand unique and special. You do this by sticking to what makes you YOU, and being sure to show that specialty and uniqueness through your business brand.
Brand awareness is everything: Corporations spend a lot of money on advertising and marketing to build brand awareness, gain more customers, and increase sales.
As a business owner (especially in your beginning stages of operation) you want to follow the same guidelines in promoting your business for brand awareness. This is why consistency is so important – the more people see your brand, the more they will think of your business when looking to buy a particular service or product.

Study the Online Market
Before you really do anything when it comes to branding online, you should study the online market: It’s important for you as a business owner to know what works for branding online for the several different online platforms that exist today.
For example, the branding and marketing strategies that work on Instagram may not translate well on Facebook or Twitter, and vice-versa. Use your time to invest in doing proper research to get ahead in the game. This important step is essential in successfully and strategically branding your business online.
You also want to invest in learning aids from professionals: I advise you to invest in books, seminars, workshops, eCourses, mentors, events and other learning opportunities from the people who are in your field or doing what you desire to do professionally. The value, knowledge and insight you will gain from knowledgable professionals will save you time and money in the long run by helping you avoid possible mistakes for your business.
The internet is your best friend: Use the internet! You will not believe the amount of information online that people miss because they simply don’t want or think to look into it online. There are several online resources like Google, blogs, YouTube and other resources to help you.
Analytics Mean Something
Use your analytics! This is something I harp about often, but it is because they really do help you.
As someone who has experience in technology and social media management, I use the several analytical resources I have for all 3 of my online brands to give me an advantage.
You want to make sure that you are measuring your output online. You do this by studying your analytics. Though I do not advise obsessing over this information, I do advise careful consideration into using and checking your numbers often for the betterment and success of your online branding.
Try several tests of your product or service on test size samples: Social media is great for this because it allows you the opportunity to try out a lot of different branding campaigns on a target audience. Especially in your beginning stages of running your business, tests and trial runs will show you quickly and early on what works for your brand.
How to successfully market your business online: Take it from me, running and operating a business involves a lot of work, investment, time and energy. You want to make sure that you incorporate into your business plan a budget for promotion and advertising to get the word out about your business.
Social media marketing is great for this, and an avenue that many businesses take to promote their brands online. Here are some tips to help you successfully do this:
- Generate a PR (public relations) list of different influencers/individuals you can reach out to, to help you promote your brand online. Keep in mind the respect of these individuals – NEVER approach someone with an empty pitch of just promoting your business or product!! You want to always offer ways in which you can help that individual in exchange for promoting your brand. (Trust me, I get a lot of messages from businesses/business-owners who approach me incorrectly, and these are the types of requests I reject as an influencer).
- If you are an influencer seeking brand deals or collaboration opportunities, a great way to attract these kinds of opportunities is to have your email easily accessible for a business to contact you. You can also put in your bio section that you are “Open to Collaborate”. I get contacted by many brands because I have a portfolio of previous collaborations I have done on my social media feed, and I list my email address on my social media business page.

Social Media marketing has become a major technological advancement for business owners looking to increase brand awareness and make larger profits: I would advise you as a business owner to invest in this resource and learn what works for you and your brand. As an entrepreneur, it is important and necessary for you to invest in continuous learning in order to be successful.
The biggest hurdles you will ever face as a business owner lie in front of you, and it is up to you to learn how to strategically maneuver around them by learning from others.

What I have learned by operating my 3 businesses using social media, is that you have to stick to what your brand represents. People love and are attracted to AUTHENTICITY, so do not get into the business of scamming people just to make a profit. Trust me, your success will not last very long.
Do things the right way early on and have integrity in your business practices, and your brand will stand the tests of time.
